Description of Research

I am developing novel therapeutic strategies targeting heme utilization in P. aeruginosa.  P. aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen causing life threatening infections in immunocompromised patients. Currently, I am developing a high-throughput in vivo screening assay to characterize inhibitors against P. aeruginosa heme sensing and utilization as well as synthesizing novel small molecule inhibitors targeting the P. aeruginosa heme oxygenase which has been found to play an important role in bacterial heme uptake.
