Description of Research
Aziza is a joint student of Professor Angela Wilks and Professor Fengtian Xue labs. She is working on the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting heme metabolism by P. aeruginosa. In Dr. Xue’s lab she is synthesizing novel small molecule inhibitors of the P. aeruginosa extracellular heme signaling and uptake pathways and the iron-regulated heme oxygenase HemO. In Dr. Wilks’ lab she is combining biochemical and bacterial reporter assays in the biological evaluation of lead compounds for SAR and chemical optimization.
