Description of Research

My research focuses on RGS5 overexpression in hyperparathyroidism and how this protein may contribute to aberrant PTH secretion. Hyperparathyroidism is a common hormonal disorder with approximately 100,000 people diagnosed each year. The current standard of treatment is surgery to remove the parathyroid tumors. However, removal of the tumors does not always work to restore PTH balance in patients. Elucidating alternative mechanisms for hyperparathyroidism could lead to better understanding and treatments of the disease.
